"I have been a service user for 5 years I think and knew about the Women's Centre for at least 2 years previous to this. I was so nervous about coming here for the first time but I have made so many friends here, some of which I class as family now. The courses I have been on - academic and non-academic - have made me feel that even I can achieve something and although I may not be ready yet to return to work I am doing something to help myself feel useful and aid my recovery from depression. I now have qualifications that I can use towards a degree in Swansea Uni and I feel more confident in using computers. Not all the courses are my cup of tea but then again, the courses I do some other people don't like. I find all the staff from DACE, Learn Direct and the Women's Centre very approachable and know they would help me if they could and they keep confidences. I am sure that if I hadn't found the Women's Centre when I did I would have had a nervous breakdown and would be so isolated. I did not know that there were women just like me suffering alone with no-one to talk to. I just hope it doesn't close because I wouldn't like another woman to miss out on the friendship and support I have found. Also I am beginning to feel like part of society again as the fear of mixing, which paralyzed me, is not so bad now." |

As you may have heard, the Women's Centre is currently experiencing problems with a funding shortfall, we are working hard to rectify this and resume a normal level of service, as well as develop new services. As you may know, lots of women rely on our services, as do many local organisations who call us regularly for advice, information, and appointments. If you are one of the many women who value our services, or represent an organisation that does, there is a new way you can help us to continue our work which is run by the Big Lottery Fund and is based on the Channel 4 programme Secret Millionaire. You can nominate us to receive up to £5,000 in grant money to continue our service. Find out more at http://secretmillionaire.channel4.com/nominate/, and if you need help to complete the form, either e-mail us at
